A Weekly Word from Pastor Lee

Our New Weekly Email—and How YOU Can Help Name It!

 I’m excited this week to be rolling out our new weekly communication, which will show up in your inbox each week if you’re subscribed to our e-mail list. (Want to join? Sign up at this link!)

Our new weekly email is taking the place of our longtime monthly newsletter, The Communicator, which was no longer working all that well as a means of sharing news and updates. If you read my explanation in our final issue in August, you already saw why:

  • The Communicator wasn’t getting read reliably,
  • which meant the big-picture news and updates we shared there weren’t getting through.
  • Its first-of-the-month cycle missed mid-month developments.
  • It was hard to read on your phone—which is the way many of you access it!

So, we’re switching to a new weekly email format with an updated look and content, including:

  • A brief weekly reflection from me or another staff member, or sometimes a guest writer;
  • A preview of that weekend’s worship;
  • Of course the week’s prayer list, which some of you have named as the thing you read most consistently;
  • “What’s Coming Up”: Our weekly announcements and calendar items;
  • “What Else You’ll Want to Know”: Other news, recaps, and updates on ongoing projects that we’ve previously published primarily in the Communicator. We hope you’ll be glad to check in on these subjects that are happening in our life together here at C/W. For longer items, only the opening paragraph or so will appear in the email, with a link to the rest of the piece in the “news” page (under “Coming Up”) on our website.
  • A “Helpful Links” section so you can easily find our livestream, giving page, and other regularly referenced links.

For those few who have received a printed copy of The Communicator that we mail to you each month, you’ll receive a printed copy of the weekly email every week—which will better keep you up to date on weekly news, prayer requests, and the like.

The more we’ve talked about this new weekly email, the more we think it needs a name! After all, we’ve been used to The Communicator for years; what will we call this new thing we’re doing?

We’ve come up with some possibilities: The CW Wire. The Weekly What’s-Up. The CW Current. But we want to hear your ideas—and get your feedback—on the way to a name. So, anytime from now through Monday, September 8, please click this link to share YOUR name idea for this updated weekly email! Watch for our staff’s selection of top contenders, which we’ll share on September 11, along with a link for you to vote for your favorites by September 21.

The changes in our communications don’t stop with our new weekly email. Once we get this transition implemented, we’ll turn to the next things—our website (supported by an Endowment grant!), and our livestream and other worship-related communications.

We hope you’ll be patient with these changes, and we’ll be glad to hear your feedback along the way. Please be praying that these updates connect us more effectively to one another and to the opportunities, celebrations, and ministries here at Collegiate/Wesley.

Peace, friends,

Pastor Lee
