Backpack Project

Collegiate United Methodist Church is a member of the Ames Sanctuary Interfaith Partners (ASIP). ASIP is coordinating with the Interfaith Welcome Coalition in San Antonio, Texas to provide backpacks to families who are leaving detention to go to their sponsors or families throughout the U.S. The backpacks contain basic supplies to provide comfort on their journeys. Along with items such as stuffed animals, blankets, toothbrushes and granola bars, a friendship greeting card in English and Spanish–written by Wesley students of Collegiate United Methodist and youth group of Collegiate Presbyterian –will be added to each backpack.

Monetary donations: In person to Bev Kruempel or Marti Elston or mail to ASIP, PO Box 65, Ames, IA 50010. Check payable to ASIP.
In-kind donations: Drop box at the west door (item list on box), May 6-June 3
-Individually wrapped toothbrushes
-Travel size toothpaste
-Hand wet wipe packs (10-20 per pack)
-Small combs
-Travel size Kleenex packs
-Ballpoint pens
-Small note pads Small blanket (4×6)
-Snacks – peanut butter crackers, granola bars, fruit bars

Volunteers are also needed to assemble 100 child and adult backpacks at the Interfaith Gathering Assembly on June 18, at 10:00 a.m. in Wesley Hall.
