Community Pride Worship on Sunday, September 15
This year, Ames Pridefest will be held on Saturday, September 14. In Ames, the
LGBTQIA+ community comes together to celebrate Pride in the fall to allow ISU
students to participate. In celebration with the community, 11 Ames religious
organizations have come together to plan this year’s interfaith Community Pride
Worship service for Sunday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held at the
ISU Memorial Union in the combined Sun Room and South Ballroom and also available
by livestream. Last year’s worship service was an amazing time of community. You can
still watch it here: https://youtube.com/live/YCxHCwIRVDo
Why celebrate Pride? Pride events commemorate the uprising after a NYC gay bar
called the Stonewall Inn was brutally raided by police in 1969. At that time, illegal bars
and nightclubs were the only places it was safe to be openly gay in the US. In our
religious institutions, many people have been made unwelcome even decades later. To
celebrate Pride is to renounce harm and affirm the dignity, equality, and inclusion of all
LGBTQIA+ people.
