As you’ve heard, we’re MOVING our worship for Sunday, October 11 to the ISU Memorial Union, where we’ll join a number of Ames faith communities in a combined Sunday Pride worship service. Our schedule for that day at Collegiate/Wesley is as follows:
- 8:45-9:30 Sunday School for All Ages–ending early so we can get to worship at the MU!
- 9:15-10:15 Our Church Bus will make repeated trips from the west (Annex) parking lot to the MU. **Riders need to be physically able to board and leave the bus without assistance.** OR, you can walk to the MU from our church with a group of walkers, departing from our NE entrance at 9:30 a.m. or at 9:40
- 10:00 Worship begins AT the MU **We will not gather in our
sanctuary that morning.** Worship will be shared online; we’ll
send a link closer to the date. - 11:15-ish Worship ends, cookies are served, and return bus service begins back to Annex lot
Parking is available at the MU ($5 parking fee for up to 2 hours). The Memorial Union utilizes a convenient payment system with pay stations located throughout the building, accepting VISA, Mastercard and Discover. **This is your best option if you have any accessibility challenges.**
What will worship look like?
- All ages! A kid-friendly space will be set up in the worship area.
- Time for you to visit one or more stations that reflect various spiritual traditions, including Holy Communion, Anointing, Lighting of candles, Ritual of release, and more.
- A message offered by Alex Davenport, a Des Moines native and ISU alum who currently lives in Minneapolis. Born into a multigenerational interfaith family, he started connecting with Judaism in high school and returned to Judaism after his mother died in 2021. Since moving to Minneapolis, he has found a religious home at a progressive Reform synagogue in South Minneapolis where he is a part of the immigrant justice committee and he continues the work of making Minnesota a more welcoming place for everyone.
- Music, prayer, and people—precious children of God—who have longed to be welcomed, affirmed, valued, and allowed to serve. (Those people include all of us, BTW.) As we show up together, we claim our solidarity with one another.
